The devolo Magic 2 WiFi was the original MIPS device in the Magic 2 series sometimes referred to as v1. It combines 802.11ac WiFi with G.hn powerline networking and two gigabit LAN ports. It was somewhat quickly succeeded by the devolo Magic 2 WiFi next which is an ARM device with very different hardware. Right now G.hn Powerline support is not working with mainline OpenWrt for this device. A patch is available here and allows it to work with external packages taken from Devolo's firmware.

Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.
cd /tmp wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc
→ Basic configuration After flashing, proceed with this.
Set up your Internet connection, configure wireless, configure USB port, etc.
Despite what the original Git commit that adds support seems to hint, it is not possible to use G.hn Powerline with this device with mainline OpenWrt as of now.
It is possible to create a set of packages from the Devolo firmware with the scripts provided here: https://codeberg.org/jschwart/devolo-extract-ghn-packages
The G.hn chip needs to be initialized from the OpenWrt side each time the device is powered on. This is handled by the packages from the Devolo firmware. Because of limitations when the chip is not yet initialized, this process can only be done when the switch is configured for 100 MBit/s ethernet. By default it runs at 1 GBit/s. This device is not yet ported to DSA, it relies on `swconfig` to switch the speed. The Devolo provided sources contain specific code that enables this, a first port to OpenWrt mainline is here. Building OpenWrt with this commit allows G.hn to work with the packages generated from the Devolo firmware.
The default network configuration is:
| Interface Name | Description | Default configuration |
|---|---|---|
| br-lan | LAN & WiFi | 192.168.1.1/24 |
| eth0.1 | G.hn | WAN |
| eth0.2 | LAN port | attached to br-lan |

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.
